The History
In 2019, Luca Martino started questioning reef tank lighting, the options on the market, the high cost of LED lights, and the complicated light-controlling apps. He soon realized that there was a need for innovation and cost reduction in the LED lighting market. Luca continued to study the advantages and disadvantages of several lighting types he already owned: metal halide, T-5, and LED.
The following year, Luca worked on improving spectrum blending, using different combinations of LEDs, and began mastering LED lighting technology. He bought all the equipment needed to develop and evaluate lights. By mid-2020, he had built an official R&D setup that pumped out quality, trusted data. This data led him to the conclusion that metal halide and T-5 lighting would become obsolete due to tightening regulations surrounding the mercury in the bulbs. This kicked his LED development into high gear.
The big question: Why wasn't there another existing option that mimicked T-5 lighting? By producing an LED light that could replace T-5 lighting in all aspects – coverage, spectral blending, and outright spectrum – Luca soon found his place in the reef lighting market. No disco effect, no fake spectrums that don’t match up in real-world testing, and no compromises. His vision was soon realized: build affordable, simple, yet premium, LED lights that offer pick-and-choose spectrums and provide a blanket of blended light.
The Principles
USE SCIENCE & DATA FIRST
Quanta Lights better emulate natural seawater light, meaning fewer reds and more violet and cyan. They represent the most applicable spectrums for the reefing aquarist – four spectrums designed to complement each other.
DEDICATED ENGINEERING
Continual engineering work on the thermodynamic design to ensure the LED diodes are kept cool and able to operate at optimum efficiency and longevity. The resulting light bars are robustly built and can stand up to the regular rigors of a reef aquarium.
CUSTOMER GUIDANCE

HOBBYIST TO HOBBYIST
Quanta is focused on a hobbyist to hobbyist mindset. My background as a hobbyist AND an engineer allows me to produce the products you want – directly from me to you.
KEEP IT SIMPLE
Quality doesn't mean complicated. All Quanta products are designed to be simple to understand and use.
MOUNT UP
Don't pay for mounting options. All our lights include free, locally-designed and 3-D printed, mounting options with each light.
Keeping it Local
Made by a hobbyist for the hobbyist. As a chemical engineer and a coral-growing hobbyist himself, Luca Martino recognized a need in the marketplace for high end lighting at an affordable price. In response, he has designed and engineered this line of lights right in his home state of Wisconsin.
